Whiskey & Cardigans Reviews Beautiful Empty!
Whiskey & Cardigans
Twittereview: John Common & Blinding Flashes Of Light

One perk of my job: sometimes hearing music before it is released upon the general populace.
Sometimes I like to review these albums on the Twitter (@whiskeycardigan), one tweet per track. I just made the executive decision to publish these reviews here, in their entireties.
First things: the upcoming release from John Common & Blinding Flashes Of Light – Beautiful Empty. When this “drops” at John’s release show January 16th (you get a free copy when you buy a ticket to the show), go “pick it up”. It will treat you nice.
Twittereview: “Beautiful Empty” by John Common & Blinding Flashes Of Light
- Advance listen of the latest @johncommon album. Halfway into track 1 and the hotness is overwhelming.
- The female vocals on this record are beautiful. Track 2: I’m either in the Eastern Blok or on a boat.
- “Liars love leavers, and losers leave lovers, we hurt one another without meaning to.” Track 3 is damn fine. So fine. YKK on yo’ zippa fine.
- Track 4. Piano waltz. Nice because the thumping of my heart thus far had me in a tizzy.
- Track 5. Bass groove. Horn section. Dance with a whiskey in your hand.
- An intermission! Track 6 full of tuning and paper crunching. And a cough. This points towards a complete work. A must-listen-in-full album.
- Mr. Whitman…or the spirit of…on Track 7. And a mental stroll through the trees or someone’s journal entry.
- Track 8 = Love’s A Shark = great = on this free compilation
- Finally, some angst. Not that I was waiting for it, but the album seemed to be warning you it was coming. Track 9 does the trick.
- Track 10. Less angst. More hope. Walking down a barren street when it’s raining and seeing an open coffee shop.
- Courage! Track 11! Cello part that makes you want to learn cello!
- An appropriate closer, this Track 12. Bridge is mighty and evokes the emotion of this whole album. Well done, @johncommon & gang.
