This morning, I woke up, got coffee happening and thought to myself, "I think it's time for another Facebook haiku contest". So I logged on to FB and wrote:
"Haiku competition on my page right now. Best haiku gets a copy of Beautiful Empty (our new CD) mailed to them next week. I'll even sign it with MY OWN HAIKU. Time cutoff: noon. Bring it, poets."
The response was... overwhelming. I now present to you, the best of the crop. PLEASE CAST YOUR VOTE BY COMMENTING ON THIS BLOG ENTRY BELOW !!
In no order of preference:
#1 Julie Dollarhide:
I like choir songs
They make chills run down my spine
I also like figs
#2 Graham Haworth:
grinding teeth all night
dreaming of coconut milk
and a virgin bride
#3 Jonny Hamel:
Rolling down Colfax
Longest avenue out west
No more hookers... why?
#4 Lisa Dale:
I drink coffee black
Less complicated is best
In java as life
#5 Robin Black:
thanks to John Common
I will now spend my day speaking
in five, seven, five rhythm
#6 Victoria Woodworth:
sky is full of sleep
aprons full of cotton
poised to wreck my day
#7 Ann Marie Jensen:
Startling news story
the Governor calls it quits
still John creates poetry.
#8 Martha Michaels
9:20 AM
writing haikus for facebook
a sick addiction
Lisa Millin's entry missed the noon deadline, but is nonetheless worth sharing given its theological implications:
Santa was a fraud
Dad ate all of the cookies
Glad he got heartburn
Vote now... Yes. You can vote for yourself, but only once! :)

I choose # 3, it gave me a chuckle and reminded me of childhood days when we wanted mom to drive down colfax just to see the hookers!!

I like the visuals in #6. "Poised to wreck my day" - nice.

If it won't be me I like #4, even though I don't drink coffee black - I can relate to the sentiment. And it is well stated.

Definitely #3. Colfax & hookers always steal my vote.

#6 is my favorite.
Colfax has plenty of hookers, even now.
Also, the Santa one is really the best.
