The Time in Which We Lived
copyright 2011 john common
We woke up every morning with poems in our hands.
Creating a new language that we couldn’t understand.
Sleepsurfing the collective, like a freak new model man.
Chasing isolation in a strange and lonely land.
It was the time in which we lived.
We spent most our lives alone.
Most our hearts were broken.
Most our seeds unsown.
We set it like a preference.
It wasn’t written down in stone.
But lost and scared and lonely.
Is only all we've ever known.
Lost and scared and lonely.
Is only all we've ever known.
All our conversation, turned into bad, haiku.
We made stalking a religion -- follow me, I’ll follow you.
Touch, became a memory, electric, boogaloo.
They hacked into our conscience. There was nothing we could do.

Maybe a thousand years from now.
When the computers let us feel.
I will meet you some place different.
Some place real. Some place real. Some place real.

Everyone might have their own relationship to a song and I love how this relates and speaks words I've been searching for. Thank you.
