(DENVER, CO) John Common and Blinding Flashes of Light whose debut national release Beautiful Empty is available in stores beginning tomorrow, are supporting independent record stores across the country by making a limited edition EP, entitled SIDE3, available free to fans who purchase music in their stores. The EP is described as a continuation of the feelings, ideas, musicians, instruments and the rooms that created Beautiful Empty and will be available at the end of the month while supplies last.

To celebrate the national release of Beautiful Empty, John and the Band will be making appearances at independent retail around the country over the next several months, and are kicking things off with an April 12th in-store performance at Twist & Shout in Denver (2508 East Colfax) at 6pm. The band is also celebrating national Record Store Day on Saturday, April 16th with another in-store performance at Boulder’s premiere indie record store, Albums on the Hill at 2pm. The annual Record Store Day is a nationwide event where all music fans are called on to support their local independent record stores. SIDE3 will be given away to local fans who buy a new copy of the album at these in-store performances.

The band’s exquisite solo album Beautiful Empty, has grabbed the attention of the Denver press in a big way. The Denver Post said “Beautiful Empty showcases a songwriter of remarkable depth and maturity.” North Denver News called the album “…one of the finest records out of Denver in years.” Westword, in a review of a live performance said “From the second they took the stage until the second they left it, they played with the sort of blind joy that will make you believe in whatever they’re doing – it’s pure passion and happiness.”

All the local attention spurred lots of national interest in John and the band, who were able to secure national distribution through Sony/RED for tomorrow’s national release of the album.

Blinding Flashes of Light is comprised of some of Denver’s most talented and creative musicians: Jess DeNicola’s (vocals), Daren Hahn (drums and percussion), Wes Michaels (cello, saxophones, mandolin), Adam Revell (Rhodes, piano, organ, glockenspiel) and Casey Sidwell (bass).

A national tour is planned for June and July, and you can bet that John and the band will be supporting independent retail in every city they visit. Check out www.johncommon.com to learn more.
