NYC (Jon)

From Jon W. =============

"New York can treat you unkind..."

I've been hearing John sing that lyric almost nightly for the past week. Thankfully, that hasn't been the case.

Day whatever, somewhere in a taxi in the Big Apple...

What a great day in New York. I had a chance to really soak up the vibe here, not via tourist sites, but instead by hanging out and wandering the streets, eating a lot of food, and meeting some really cool people. God I love this city. SOOO inspiring, so active, so overwhelming (in a great way), so diverse, so intimidating...I'm sure you know all the cliches. Still, they're all true. Got to play some great music yet again, with some great people and musicians, some of whom I was playing with for the first and most likely only time in my life. Every time I've played in this town, it calls on me to really step up my game sure to the overflow of talent here.

Tonight was my last gig with the band for this particular tour, which makes me a little bummed. I've only been on the road for less than a week with these guys (and girls), but it seems like much longer. Not longer in a "God, I finally get to go home sorta way," but moreso in a "this has been quite the intense, trying, tiring, super-fun, rewarding experience" kind of way. I came, I entered The Bubble, was quickly but undoubtedly accepted as part of the family, and I've fulfilled my role for now. Middle relief is over, and Adam will be coming in to close it out.

Not yet sure where l'll be sleeping tonight, as the band will travel on without me after tonight's performance. Not really concerned about it though, as this tour has also taught me a lot about what I actually "need." At this point that means a bed and shower, and I'm all good.

If I'm really lucky, maybe I'll get to check out the Village Vanguard after the gig tonight. Probably not. Maybe a run in Central Park tomorrow. Maybe not. Who knows. I have no expectations by now, which seems to be the best way to go. No expectations, roll with the punches, and be grateful for it all. Some days that's easier said than done.

Anyhow, I'm probably getting a but too preachy/philosophical/cliche/armchair-Buddhist now, but you get the point. What a great tour, can't wait for the next one.

Well, maybe after a little sleep first.
