this ultra modern, european hotel
the clear plastic furniture
the surgical halogen lights
the blood red curtains
all white starkness, steel and glass
it could make your teeth hurt
or want to wear very, very tight jeans
new prague, such a character
a vacant, gauche prostitute
you are trying too hard
put your clothes back on
but look out the rain-soaked window...
row after row of old red tiled rooftops
balconies, chimneys, darkened windows
clocks, pigeons, dripping bronze saints...
punctuated by the gothic spires
pre-communist missiles of ancient mystery and dread
god wears black and gold and green patina here
old prague, such a character, a drunken priest king
pissing in the cobbled alley
you barely need your people to exist
it's like a joke, this juxtapositon:
the foreground: a hooker spread out on the bed
the background: a dirty, crumbling coronation
and me, in the middle, trying to somehow write it down for you
